In a significant departure from traditional compensators, we actually stepped back and designed a comp that offered neutrality in performance across the widest window of parameters possible. But we also wanted the comp to be durable, short and light with a minimum of concussion. Evaluation of traditional comps and approaches told us that there was a lot left on the table. The Gas Hog is what we arrived at and we think you will agree that it was worth the wait. Measures 2.1" long (adds about 1.6" OAL) and 1" as measured top to bottom (slightly less side to side) and 3 ounces.
Precision manufactured from heat treated stainless steel and supplied with a stainless crush washer*. With significantly less concussion, weight and maintenance than traditional comps, it also is more "neutral" than traditional comps. What that means to you, the shooter, is a more effective comp over a wider array of ammo and gun system variables, with little or no need for tuning.
We have long held that the comp is just part of the system and three years ago, when the base design was started, Mark decided that if improvements over the traditional designs could not be made, he would not produce the comp. If you know anything about Carbon Arms and how we work, the mere fact that we produced this comp means that it not only works, but works well enough to surpass traditional comps.
*This crush washer is one use only! We recomend a tighten 1/4 turn, loosen, retighten plus 1/4 turn and repeat until properly timed with the square front port pointing straight up. A peel washer or shims can also be used to time the comp.
